The commercial filtration industry has been around since the 1800s. And It has grown to a multi-billion-dollar industry that employs tens of thousands of people and helps keep commercial establishments such as restaurants, schools, hospitals, and offices clean with water that is safe to drink.

There are many purification technologies out there to help facilitate the water filtration needs of manufacturing industrial and commercial needs. Water is a perfect solvent and can be contaminated easily. Because water is easy to contaminate, filtration and purification are critically important for manufacturing and industry processes.

The number of contaminants both suspended and dissolved that can be found in water is amazing. Impurities that create turbidity and hardness like nitrates and sodium, iron, and chlorides. Manganese, aluminum, and hydrogen sulfides all can create hazards in manufacturing processes. And that is just the tip of the Iceberg!

There are many different industrial systems that use aeration and clarification as a pre-treatment to reduce some of the most harmful contaminants. Hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, and ammonia to name a few. Then depending on the application, water can go through filtration, ion exchange, demineralization, and even industrial reverse osmosis.

Commercial water filtration systems are made for commercial use by companies like Pentair, Culligan International Company Inc., or Liqtech. These commercial water systems can be installed in large residential homes too if you have an industrial-sized budget!

This post will talk about what commercial water filtration is all about and why it’s important to invest in one if your business relies on clean and purified water day after day.

Why would you need a commercial water filter?

If you or your business need to filter more than 12 gallons per minute or your water source line is 1.5 inches in diameter or bigger, It would be wise to create a water filtration system that can handle the volume. These systems typically need a larger investment as well.

Raw sewage, industrial effluent, and agricultural waste can all be harmful to your commercial property and staff if ingested. And create premature equipment failure. A commercial water filtration system will help reduce the risks of these contaminants making their way into your establishment’s drinking and service water.

Not only are commercial water filters important for keeping you and your employees safe, but they also play an important role in keeping your equipment clean. Contaminants can quickly build up and cause mineral or particulate buildup if not filtered out of the water supply.

A commercial water filter will also help reduce scale buildup on appliances such as dishwashers, ice machines, and coffee makers. This is important because calcium deposits can lead to early failure of these appliances and increased maintenance costs.

If you are looking for a commercial water filtration system, there are a few different types that you can choose from:

  • Activated carbon filters
  • Reverse Osmosis Systems(RO System)
  • Distillation Systems
  • DI Systems
  • Coagulation and Flocculation Systems

Each type of filter has its own unique benefits and drawbacks, so it’s important to do your research before you make a purchase. It all depends on what you want to accomplish with your water needs.

In general, commercial water filters can be divided into multiple stages of filtration:

Pre-filter – This is the first line of defense against large particles and sediment. It removes dirt, rust, and other debris from the water supply.

Pressurized – This type of filter uses pressure to force water through a series of filters to remove smaller particles from the water.

Ultraviolet sterilization – This stage kills any harmful bacteria or viruses that may be present in the water supply.

There are even filters that can remove the endotoxins leftover from sterilization.
