The Survivor Filter Pro X Electric Water Filter is the first personal electric water filter. Yup, It runs on batteries. And it provoked my interest for a couple of reasons.
But what is it?
This is a piece of survival gear that I have seen on Doomsday Preppers and other prepper shows. Here’s the basic rundown from the website: “The Electric Water Filter Pro X purifies water by removing viruses, bacteria, protozoa, sediment, chemicals and pesticides to EPA standards.” So yeah – it’s a water filter. And it looks like a cool one at that!
However, I wanted to find out more about the Electric Water Filter Pro X. So I did some digging and found this video from the creator of the Electric Water Filter Pro X. It gives a good overview of what the Electric Water Filter Pro X is and how it works.

In a nutshell, the Electric Water Filter Pro X is a battery-powered water filter that can remove viruses, bacteria, protozoa, sediment, chemicals, and pesticides to EPA standards. It’s perfect for hiking, camping, hunting, and other outdoor activities.
The Electric Water Filter Pro X three main parts:
Stage 1: Ultra Filter Pre-Filter
The 0.1 Micron Pre-Filter is a barrier to help remove algae, giardia, and e-coli while also removing cryptosporidium. It can be back washed up to 100,000 liters which means you’ll never have to buy replacement filters again!
Stage 2: Carbon Filter
Then the water moves through a carbon filter, which removes any heavy metals and chemicals. The reusable filters are easy to clean and can be used up to 2000L without any issues with taste or smell.
Stage 3: Internal Ultra Filter
The final Internal Ultra Filter can filter out 99.999% of virus and staph, making this an important step in the water treatment process. It also allows for easy backwashing that will allow you to reuse your unit up to 100,000 liters!
It’s easy to use
The first reason is that it’s an electric water filter. Electric water filters are new to the market, and probably will make things easier for some people. It makes clean drinking water almost as easy as turning on your faucet.
The second reason I was interested in this filter is that it’s fun to learn how things work. And I’m curious about the idea of an electric water filter. How does it work? What are the benefits? Let’s take a closer look.
The Survivor Filter Pro X Electric Water Filter uses a microporous membrane to filter out 99.999% of all bacteria, viruses, and protozoa. The filter has also been tested and certified to remove Lead, Mercury, Chromium 6, Cadmium, Copper, and Aluminum. It also removes pesticides, industrial solvents, nitrates, and fertilizers.
The Pro X is a good size for what it can do!
It’s compact, lightweight (14 oz), and portable(3.2 x 2 x 6.5″). This thing can go with you anywhere. The 2 AA batteries last up to 6 hours, equivalent to 360 liters (95 gallons) in very dirty water and 442 liters (117 gallons) of water in clearer water conditions. It can also be plugged into an external power bank.
The operational lifespan will depend on water quality and frequency of use. It comes with an extra cartridge, but if that one was to be used up during a camping trip or survival situation it can be changed quickly.
The Survivor Filter Pro X Electric Water Filter is certified by the Water Quality Association (WQA). It’s also been tested for Lead Removal by the California Department of Health and will remove 99% of Lead.
Testing showed the effectiveness of virus, bacteria, and parasite removal. Survivor Filter PRO had a LOG 5 reduction in viral/bacterial pathogen counts with 99.999% efficiency for heavy metal removal while Electric Pro X also achieved this record-setting performance but to an even higher degree than before!
How long does the Electric Water Filter Pro X last?
- Pre-Filter: up to 100,000 liters (26, 417 gallons)
- Carbon Filter: up to 2,000 liters (528 gallons)
- Ultra Filter: up to 100,000 liters (26, 417 gallons)
- The 2 AA batteries last up to 6 hours
Drawbacks
The main drawbacks I see really come from an area of usage. It’s not the fastest filter at filtering 500 mL a minute(17 oz/minute). And in a doomsday scenario, being electrically powered could become an issue. If there’s no way to filter water manually, the pro X would be useless.
With that said, you could set up the filter and walk away for 5 to 10 minutes and it would filter all the water you would need for the day. And if you have a solar rechargeable power bank, this could last an incredible amount of time.
Final Thoughts
Electric water filters may be a new and exciting thing, but they’re also efficient. The Survivor Electric Water Filter Pro X is no exception in this regard. It’s been tested by the California Department of Health for lead removal and has an impressive record-setting performance when it comes to heavy metal removal rates as well. There are some drawbacks such as only being able to filter 500 mL per minute(17 oz/minute) which can make things difficult if you don’t have access to another type of filter during a doomsday scenario, but otherwise, this electric water filter is worth considering!
